Professor Irene J Higginson was invited speakers at the Annual General Meeting for the Danish Society for Palliative Medicine on 19 January. Her talk ‘What are the most important questions for palliative care from the health services point of view?’ was followed by an open discussion with audience members. The first section of the presentation covered the new era of society and health care; the second covered the challenges this brings for palliative care, key health services research questions and priorities of patients and families; and finally Professor Higginson spoke about transformation research and methods to evaluate complex interventions. In addition, Professor Higginson chaired a poster discussion session where five abstracts were discussed. Many of the attendees were members of the Association who are mostly palliative care physicians and researchers.
