Research

The Department of Culture, Media and Creative Industries (CMCI) encompasses 21 active researchers, including four professors. In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) CMCI submitted together with the Department of Digital Humanities to Unit of Assessment (UoA) 36 (Culture, Communication and Media Studies).

80% of our research was recognised as being of a world-leading (4*) and internationally excellent standard (3*).  In UoA 36 our submission was placed first in the UK in terms of Research Power.

CMCI has approximately 40 postgraduate research students studying for a doctorate. Several have secured funding support from schemes operated by the London Interdisciplinary Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership (Economic and Social Research Council), the London Arts and Humanities Partnership (Arts and Humanities Research Council) and from the King’s-China Scholarship Programme (K-CSC).

CMCI runs regular research seminars for students, staff and guests. Notable visiting researchers include David Buckingham, Annette Hill, and Ramon Lobato.
