At Home in Cultural London

At Home in Cultural London is a year-long programme of activity designed to connect you to London, and King’s, through arts and culture. Whether you just want to have a taste, or fully immerse yourself, this programme is your jumping off point to explore, reflect and create in cultural London.

At Home in Cultural London will include bespoke video content from King’s academics and London’s artists and cultural organisations, live creative workshops and opportunities to connect with each other and explore the city. The programme will be available to join and engage with throughout the year, with new content and workshops on offer each month, with themes such as personal creativity, skills, wellbeing, activism and the future of the city. 

Content will be released monthly, designed to fit with King’s Refreshers themes:

October 2021: Our Culture & Community
Get introduced to Cultural London, connect with King’s Cultural Community and think about personal creativity. You will have the chance to participate in creative workshop opportunities, plus activities connected with the Visible Skin exhibition on King's Strand Campus.

November 2021: Building your skills
Explore a selection of Creative Digital Skills training videos and LinkedIn learning. Participate in a blog-writing workshop, creative activities such as Still Life Drawing and activities connected with the Visible Skin exhibition on King's Strand Campus.

December 2021: Dive deeper into King's Cultural Community
Explore a set of online resources and hear from King’s academics and London’s artists and cultural organisations.

January 2022: Explore the city (not part of Refreshers)
Learn about highlight cultural experiences in London and explore the city, cultural landscapes & urban development. Take part in activity groups (ongoing until April) and in-person creative workshops (subject to Covid-19 guidance).

February 2022: Speaking your mind
Discover the role of arts and creativity for wellbeing and mental health and take part in wellbeing workshops delivered in-person and online (subject to Covid-19 guidance). 

March 2022: Serving our Society
Take part in community-based arts initiatives across King’s, cultural volunteering opportunities and in-person creative workshops (subject to Covid-19 guidance). 

April 2022: Cultural Experience Award submission (optional, more information on KEATS)
Should you opt to undertake the Cultural Experience Award, you will work independently on your creative submission and accompanying essay, which will have to be submitted by 3rd May. 

If you engage regularly over the year, you will be able to earn a certificate of participation or even an Experience Award (more information on KEATS) to be recognised on your Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR). The programme is open to all students new and returning regardless of faculty, year or level of study. No pre-existing knowledge or experience with arts and culture or London is necessary or expected.
