High-resolution cellular and molecular analysis of periodontal wound granulation tissue

Funding: Self-funded. Students will need to self-fund or secure sponsorship for non-clinical PhD annual fees shown at this page plus bench fees of £10,000 per year.

Project description

This PhD project will build on previous studies from our group, which have shown novel characteristics of intra-surgical periodontal wound granulation tissue and its association with periodontal wound healing.

This project will involve clinical sample processing of periodontal granulation tissue derived from periodontal surgical procedures for high resolution cellular and molecular analysis, and to correlate finding with clinical outcomes of surgical procedures.

Research training

  • Candidates will develop and enhance their skills and knowledge in clinical research and research governance, a wide range of laboratory techniques for high-resolution cellular and molecular characterisation of granulation tissue.
  • Data analysis (including bioinformatic approaches) and research methodology
  • Transferable research skills

Person Specification

We will consider applications from prospective students with a good biosciences, dental, medical or similar degree (minimum of a 2:1)
