The Studentships include payment of annual registration fees equivalent to UK/EU fee level, and are offered with a tax-free stipend of £11,500 per annum, plus the potential for paid teaching opportunities with a salary of at least £4,000 per annum.

Financial Support for Military Personnel: DSD Fellowships

Up to two DSD Fellowships are available each year for UK military personnel:

  • One full fellowship covering all fees, available to retired military personnel.
  • A further fellowship covering the difference between PhD tuition fees and the Enhanced Learning Credits (ELCs) to which serving military personnel are entitled, if any.

Details about the Studentships

Applicants will be expected to have a good undergraduate degree (though this is not essential) and a Masters degree in a relevant subject. The Fellowships will be awarded on a competitive basis. A panel of academic staff will review all applications (both for the PhD programme and financial support), taking into account the academic record of the applicant, the quality of the proposed research project, and how well it fits with the research expertise of DSD staff.

To register interest please contact pgr-securitystudies@kcl.ac.uk. Your letter should list your previous academic qualifications and explain how your project would contribute to the research culture of DSD. The application deadline is 26th June 2020. Applicants must have already submitted an application to the Defence Studies PhD programme to be considered for this Fellowship.
