Insights - Work Shadowing & Treks

Our Insights programming develops career confidence in students, providing them with the knowledge, attributes, skills and experiences to focus their career thinking as they embark on their search for graduate opportunities.

With our location at the heart of the capital, we know the benefit of being able to see and feel the buzz of an organisation and understand its culture.

That's why, as we exit the COVID-19 pandemic we're keen to offer our students opportunities to develop their employability and build career-confidence through short experiences shadowing industry professionals and leaders or immersing themselves in your office environment or premises.

Working with targeted cohorts of students, Insights provide meaningful work opportunities for undergraduate students who are still undecided about their career options, or for PhD students looking to explore life outside of academia.

Who's it most suited for?

Our Insights Business Treks can be hosted with any organisation in London or South-East England, whilst Work Shadowing opportunities may be more appropriate for start-ups, charities, community organisations, social enterprises and alumni.

We're planning to launch our refreshed Insights programme in autumn 2023.

Our Programmes

Provide short work shadowing opportunities for final-year undergraduates, perfect for start-ups and SMEs.

You'll work with identified students across our faculties who are still Discovering their career options and require exploration of the workplace to support them building success.

Work shadowing might be just one day - or a full week, and we provide a stipend to all participants.

Provide short work shadowing opportunities for our PhD researchers, perfect for start-ups and SMEs.

You'll work with identified students across our Centre for Doctoral Studies who are expanding their horizons outside academia - discovering corporate options and requiring exploration of the workplace to support them building success.

Work shadowing might be just one day - or a full week, and we provide a stipend to all participants.

Business Treks are a great opportunity to showcase your organisation culture, provide engagement with a range of people working in the organisation and immerse our students in your office environment.

A typical Trek may include an office tour, networking opportunities, a presentation and a chance to meet current interns, placement students or graduates working in the organisation.

We're developing Treks for small, targeted cohorts of students with organisations based in London and South-East England, which could be:

  • A single site visit for half a day (c. 3 hours)
  • A combination of smaller visits (c. 90 minutes) to a handful of sites in a given locality

  •
