Speaker: Dr Eran Elhaik

Affiliation: Department of Animal & Plant Sciences, University of Sheffield

Description: Previous research demonstrated that human DNA can be traced to their place of origin with extreme accuracy; down to home villages in some cases. However, since human DNA does not change over time, this information has limited usefulness for some forensic applications. Here, Dr Elhaik demonstrates that microbiome samples obtained from soil or transit systems can be used to identify the sampling site with very high accuracy.
