Mind the Gap: The Physician-Surgeon using prehab and tough love to address social determinants of health.
Scope
This talk will take you through the journey of a new model of perioperative care for vascular surgical patients in Hull and North-East Lincolnshire, one of the most deprived areas in England.
Profile
Dr Sasi Pathmanathan, is a Consultant Vascular Perioperative Physician working at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The vascular unit is a tertiary unit serving the populations of Hull, Grimsby and Scunthorpe and their surrounding areas. As a third-year medical student, she knew she wanted to be a perioperative physician. In 2020 on completing her training in geriatric and general medicine, she started working on establishing Vascular Perioperative Care for Vascular patients. She is believed to be the first medical consultant in the country to be directly employed by and embedded within a Vascular Surgical Department. She is a consultant geriatrician and general physician by training and has an MSc in Perioperative Medicine from UCL. She is part of the MSc faculty and is the lead for the frailty module. Dr Pathmanathan has developed a unique prehabilitation programme which has helped hundreds of vascular surgical patients across the Humber region to change their lifestyle and help improve long term health.

Digital Mental Health for Older Adults: Needs, Barriers, and Design Priorities
Scope
Despite growing interest in digital mental health interventions, limited attention has been given to whether they meet the specific needs of older adults. This talk presents findings from a programme of research that explores older adults’ experiences with digital mental health tools, evaluates existing mental health apps, and identifies design priorities for more inclusive and effective support.
