Educators’ Workshop: Future(s) of Language Education
King's Building, Strand Campus, London
The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at King’s College London is pleased to invite educators to its upcoming workshop dedicated to exploring emergent practices and innovation in language education. The workshop will provide a forum for sharing best practice and building sustainable relationships between educators at school and university level.
The event will consist of a series of panels, each focusing on a key theme relating to the future(s) of language education.
Panels consist of a 10-minute presentation from each speaker, followed by break-out group discussion of a series of questions proposed by the speakers, and finally plenary discussion.
The workshop will take place in hybrid format, with online attendance possible via Microsoft Teams. Participation is free, but advance registration is required. Please sign up via the link on the right.
Speakers
- Lisa Banning teaches German language and translation in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at King's, with a particular interest in translation into the target language.
- Stefanie Green has been a teacher of German, Spanish and French at Farlingaye High School for over 20 years. She is a German Expert Mentor for the Goethe-Institut London and the Subject Lead for Modern Languages at EAST SCITT, a teacher training provider in Suffolk.
- Ros Murray teaches French Film in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at King's, including a final-year module, ‘Politics and the Moving Image in post-1968 France’. She is co-founder of the research network Herstoriographies.
- Jen O’Reilly Turner is Modern Languages Subject Lead at Abbeygate Sixth Form, Bury St Edmunds.
- Elisa Sampson Vera Tudela teaches Latin American Studies in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at King's, including a second-year module, ‘Language Acts and Worldmaking Laboratory’, which aims to develop students’ awareness of the transformative effects of language learning.
- Sandra Underwood is Head of MFL at Hemel Hempstead School. She has been involved in a range of international projects and is currently focusing on developing collaborative learning in the classroom to enhance student engagement.
