Come and hear from our esteemed panel including Daniel Long Co-Founder of Garfield AI, the UK's first SRA-regulated AI law firm, Shruti Ajitsaria the Head of Fuse, A&O Shearman’s Band-1 globally-ranked tech innovation space, Bertie Heppel, Associate Director and strategic analyst at Meridan West, and Richard Nicholas, Partner and AI Lawyer at Browne Jacobson.

The Professional Law Institute, in collaboration with King’s College London’s Law & Tech Society will host this panel discussion, focusing on current and future trends in how legal services users, from individuals in small financial value claims to in-house teams with large legal budgets and the firms serving them, are reacting to and utilising new technologies. What are the discernible effects on legal market spend? Who’s winning market share and why?

You are warmly invited to the discussion, which will involve short presentations and a lengthy Q&A session. Refreshments will be served and there will be time for networking in our beautiful Bush House venue.

The panel:

- Shruti Ajitsaria is the Head of Fuse, A&O Shearman’s tech innovation space which opened in 2017 to identify and collaborate with LegalTech and FinTech companies relevant to its lawyers and their clients. Today, Fuse is the only incubator of its kind to consistently be ranked in Band 1 of the ‘Global-wide LawTech Incubators & Accelerators’ category in the Chambers and Partners’ Guide and to date, has included over 90 different companies from across the globe, yielding several successful collaborations.

- Daniel Long is a co-founder and CTO of Garfield AI, the UK's first SRA-regulated AI law firm. A physicist with an MSc in Quantum Dynamics from Imperial College London, he left his PhD in neuromorphic photonics to build accessible legal tech. Drawing on experience in AI-driven data science at biotech and fintech companies, he's now engineering the infrastructure that enables Garfield to automate debt recovery through small claims court, making legal services faster, more affordable, and scalable for businesses across England and Wales.

- Richard Nicholas Richard is a partner in the technology team at Browne Jacobson, heading up the firm’s AI practice for business clients. Recognised as a leading expert in technology law by Legal 500 and in Chambers and Partners, Richard advises on an array of matters including AI projects, data protection and technology procurement. He is currently working on AI projects with retailers, financial service providers and in the Education sector. He offers AI governance training and training to businesses and legal teams on the responsible use of AI.

- Bertie Heppel is an Associate Director at Meridian West. He provides strategic, research-led advice to law firms on client strategy, market strategy, and brand positioning. He regularly interviews the clients of major law firms, uncovering how client needs are driving technology adoption in legal services, and advises law firms on how to position themselves in an increasingly technology-mediated market. He also leads client engagements for Meridian West's proprietary AI research platform, CoreClarity.
