Explore Africa: open house at the Foyle Special Collections Library
Come and explore some of the unique collections of historical material on Africa held in the Foyle Special Collections Library. Ranging in date from the 16th century to the present day and in geographical coverage from the Cape of Good Hope to Cairo and all points between, our collections of books, maps, manuscripts and photographs form a major research resource for the study of Africa. Many items are from the historical library collection of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), now held by King’s, and deal with such themes as the Atlantic slave trade and its abolition, the ‘Scramble for Africa’, British imperial rule and the transition from Empire to Commonwealth.
We will have a selection of material on display for you to look at and handle. Special Collections staff will be on hand to guide you through the display, answer your questions and advise on how our collections might support your studies, teaching or research. There’s no need to book a place – just turn up.
Location: Foyle Special Collections Library, Maughan Library.
