The Impact Centre for Palliative and End-of-Life Care is hosting an online event on Thursday, 18 June 2026 from 1:00pm-2:00pm. The event will be a webinar focused on improving take-up of benefits by patients towards the end of life.

This free event is fully virtual and will take place online via Microsoft Teams.

What will this session cover?

Many people living with serious illness face a double financial burden of loss of earnings for themselves and their carers and increased costs. The ‘Special Rules for End of Life’ provide fast-tracked access to means and non-means-tested financial support for people living with terminal illness. These benefits are intended to help people maintain their dignity and independence towards the end of life, but 1 in 3 miss out on this support. This 60-minute webinar brings together researchers, clinicians, and policy experts to explore the latest evidence on benefit take-up at end of life and what can be done to improve it.

Speakers will cover guidance for healthcare professionals on supporting patients with terminal illness to access benefits via the ‘Special Rules’, practical tools for speaking to patients about financial issues, and new research on who misses out on benefits and why. This will be followed by a cross-sector panel discussion.
