We are delighted to invite you to the launch of the special issue of the journal South Asia: Journal of South Asian Studies, entitled Clinical Affects and edited by Shagufta Bhangu (King’s College London), Clémence Jullien (CNRS) and Fabien Provost (CNRS).

Building on different disciplinary traditions and locations (India, UK, US and France), this special issue brings together some of the most recent research in the medical anthropology of South Asia and is marked by a geographical, medical and academic plurality. It documents the many forms that clinical sites are taking, how these have changed over time, and the ways in which these have been shaped by socio-political, economic and bureaucratic affects and emotions.

This special issue launch will take place on Friday, 19 June 2026 in the Council Room, King's Building, Strand Campus from 2.30 to 5 pm and online via MS Teams. For in-person attendees, presentations and discussions will be followed by a cocktail reception from 5pm to 6pm.

We would like to invite scholars in the fields of medical anthropology and South Asian studies to come together for lively discussions and celebration of this publication with its editors and contributing authors, and also to engage with one another.
