This seminar will present the results of the first multidisciplinary systematic review of 25 years of academic research on religion and peacebuilding (2001-2025). Part of the SCORE – Religion and Peacebuilding Programme led by Dr Stacey Gutkowski and based in the Centre for the Study of Divided Societies, Department of War Studies, King’s College London, this is the result of collaborative research conducted at King’s and the Department of Peace and Conflict Research, Uppsala University. Speakers will reflect on the current “state of the data,” gaps, and prospects for scientific advancement and connections to global peacebuilding practice.
This research forms part of the Social Consequences of Religion (SCORE) Initiative, funded by the Templeton Religion Trust (TRT), which is poised to be a multi-decade effort to research and analyse the effects of religious beliefs, behaviours and institutions on a set of crucial domains of human life.
Panellists:
Dr Stacey Gutkowski, Reader in Peace and Conflict Studies, Department of War Studies, King’s College London
Prof Isak Svensson, Professor in the Department of Peace and Conflict Research, Uppsala University
Dr Jason Klocek, Assistant Professor in Politics and International Relation, University of Nottingham
About SCORE: Religion & Peacebuilding
Funded by the Templeton Religion Trust, the SCORE Religion & Peacebuilding strand is a long-term research programme examining how religious beliefs, behaviours, and institutions shape peacebuilding efforts in post-conflict societies. The project forms part of a broader, multi-decade initiative organised around convergent research strands on Religion and Cooperation, Religion and Peacebuilding, and Religion and Development.
The Religion & Peacebuilding strand is led by Dr Stacey Gutkowski, Reader in Peace and Conflict Studies in the Department of War Studies at King’s College London, and a founding director of the Centre for the Study of Divided Societies.
