A visiting PhD researcher from Norway joins the Centre for Innovation in Teacher Education and Development at KCL to report on Oslo's experiment with free choice of schools and the impact it has on teachers

About the seminar

How does market-based governance of upper secondary education affect teachers employed by the schools?

Based on research on Oslo's long-lasting experiment with free choice of schools, activity-based funding and test-based accountability, this presentation will report on the findings of doctoral research regarding teachers' autonomy, their job commitment, and their right to speak about school matters.

Drawing in particular on public sector branding theory, the presentation will show how schools apply branding principles at the policy, service, and organizational levels to influence political events, attract resources, obtain political influence and acquire competitive advantage.
