This event series is part of Reconciliations, an exhibition running in parallel at The Exchange, Bush House, King’s College London from 1 November-14 December 2018, and at The Knapp Gallery, Regent’s University London, from 1 November 2018-19 January 2019.

The exhibitions are part of a major AHRC-funded project, ‘Art & Reconciliation: Conflict, Culture and Community’, led by King’s in collaboration with the University of the Arts London and the London School of Economics, and funded by the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Partnership for Conflict Crime and Security Research Programme (PaCCS) and by the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF).

Art and Reconciliation explores the politics of reconciliation across the Western Balkans and beyond from a variety of perspectives in three strands; History, Discourse and Practice. The exhibitions offer a chance to see the specific project art commissions, as well as other works relating to the broader concept of ‘reconciliation’.

Forensic Aesthetics

Artist Vladimir Miladinović will discuss his work from the project Rendered History, which deals with wartime and post-war trauma of the former Yugoslav societies.

Reconciling Experience: Dance Excerpt, Q&A and Reception

Choreography by Roman Baca, Fulbright Scholar, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and former US Marine.

This choreography aims to explore how the experience of serving in the military becomes embodied and carried over into everyday life.

Photographer Ziyah Gafić will present his work on the post war legacy of the conflict in the former Yugoslavia.

Mladen will talk about the work in the context of his personal experience of child living literally on the frontline, growing up surrounded by soldiers, and violence and how it influenced his identity and his work.
