The Dickson Poon School of Law, The Center for International Commercial & Investment Arbitration at Columbia University, and Three Crowns are pleased to present the David D. Caron Praelium.

The Praelium, first introduced in 2015, is an annual celebration of advocacy, with two leading international advocates deploying their oratorical and advocacy skills in the service of important current legal issues before a distinguished three-member tribunal. The event has been renamed to honour the life and legacy of Praelium co-founder Professor David D. Caron, an individual of great humility and kindness whose distinguished career in international law will long serve as a source of guidance and inspiration.

This year’s Praelium will take place on Monday, 14 May 2018 at 6pm at The Law Society in London.

The two leading advocates are Isabelle Michou (Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan) and Jeff Sullivan (Gibson Dunn).

The distinguished tribunal will comprise Sarah Grimmer (HKIAC), Professor George A. Bermann (Columbia Law School), and V V Veeder QC (Essex Court Chambers / King's College London).

This year’s mock problem will address (i) the role of third-party funding in a determination of security for costs and (ii) an alleged lapse in counsel ethics and the appropriate response.

Registration will take place from 5:30pm in the Great Hall. The event itself will begin at 6pm and will be followed by a drinks reception from 7:30pm.

Guests are kindly encouraged to RSVP in advance, as space is limited.
