The effects of AI in the workplace are ever-present, with research increasingly showing how gradual deployment is affecting different sectors and workers. While many reports are showing general trends, there is less evidence of pressing factors such as AI skills gaps and barriers to upskilling among women and gender diverse workers.

This event aims to address these challenges with an expert panel of academics, researchers and organisational leaders. The panel will address factors relating to AI, gender and workers themselves, but also the challenges of understanding gendered trends in data and how to address gender bias within the tools themselves.

The event also addresses the broader challenges and opportunities for intersectional considerations beyond gender in isolation, exploring approaches to collectively designing an inclusive AI economy.

The discussion will be chaired by Dr Nessa Keddo, Senior Lecturer in Media, Diversity and Technology, and will feature contributions from:

  • Peter Brown, Global Workforce Leader, PwC
  • Professor Miriam Fernandez, Professor of Responsible Artificial Intelligence, Open University
  • Resham Kotecha, Global Head of Policy, Open Data Institute
  • Professor Elena Simperl, Professor of Computer Science and Co-Director, King’s Institute for Artificial Intelligence

This event forms part of the King's AI and Workforce Futures programme which brings together the university’s world‑leading AI research, policy expertise, employer partnerships and interdisciplinary strengths to shape how the UK prepares for the future of work.
