Professor Chris Harrison began her research career working with Paul Black and Dylan Wiliam on a project to implement ideas from their pathbreaking review of formative assessment in 1998. Since then she has worked with teachers, departments, schools, regions and countries on implementing teaching and learning approaches that encourage feedback between teachers and learners and that have a positive effect on attainment. Her recent book with Margaret Heritage documents some of this journey and highlights some of the changes teachers make in their classroom to encourage teachers to notice more carefully how students are learning and to respond to this evidence in an active and positive way.

In this seminar, Chris will explore some of those scenarios and also offer suggestions as to why there have been pitfalls within pre-service and in-service education in supporting teachers in understanding this approach. We are hoping that Dylan Wiliam will comment on Chris’s presentation (via Skype; tbc). We will also celebrate the publication of Chris and Margaret’s timely book.
