Three Admirals from major navies with security interests in the Indo-Pacific debate the role of navies in an age of interstate competition.

About this event:

What does it mean to be back in an age of interstate competition? The latest US National Security Strategy represented a paradigm shift in international security, highlighting at the same time how the Indo-Pacific is likely to be the fulcrum of such competitive environment. Three Admirals from major navies with significant security interests in the region, debate the implications of this paradigm shift and what roles they expect navies to play in the new security framework.

Admiral Tomohisa Takei Japanese Navy (JMSDF), CHIEF OF MARITIME STAFF, Ret.

Admiral Takei was the Chief of Staff of the Japan Maritime Self- Defence Force and is currently the distinguished International Fellow with the U.S. Naval War College.

Vice Admiral Hervé Bléjean French Navy, Deputy Commander, NATO MARITIME COMMAND

Vice Admiral Bléjean is the Deputy Commander at the Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM), Northwood, UK, a position he has held since July 2017.

Rear Admiral Andrew Burns OBE Royal Navy, COMMANDER, UK MARITIME STRIKE FORCE

Rear Admiral Andrew Burns serves as Commander United Kingdom Maritime Strike Force and Rear Admiral Surface Ships .
