Get a taste for life at King's at our online event for those interested in undergraduate study in Classics.
This taster talk focuses on the artistic medium of mosaic. Developed in the Classical World as one of the pre-eminent ways of decorating architecture, we will explore mosaics as they appeared in the Hellenistic and Roman worlds, from Turkey to Britain, discussing their forms and functions in relation to their physical and historical contexts. While doing so we will think about the ways in which mosaics were meaningful and evoked the status of their commissioners. We will also assess how they were produced and what this tells us about the craftspeople who made them.
