The search for ‘evidence’ & ‘analysis’: The view from the Bench

Virginia Woolf Building, Strand Campus , London

17 Sep abstract main780x450 Part of Contemporary issues and debates in social work education, research and practice

This seminar is led by new HSCWRU Visiting Senior Research Fellow, Her Honour Judge Carol Atkinson, Designated Family Judge for East London who helped design the first Randomised Controlled Trial (RCT) in family proceedings.

How does a case look from the perspective of the Bench? Why does the Judge sometimes differ from social work practitioners as to outcome? This seminar will consider the reason why we are expected to provide ‘evidence’ and ‘analysis’ for court proceedings and what that means. It will also debate the tension created by a ‘child protection focused’ system where practitioners are asked to work in partnership with families to deliver social work interventions whilst also gathering evidence for proceedings.

Attendance at this seminar is by invitation only.
