What Do We Know and What Should We Do About Immigration? addresses questions such as: does immigration reduce job opportunities for those born in the UK, or push down wages? What is the impact of immigration on the public finances and public services? and, what has the impact of free movement of people been, both in the UK and the rest of the EU? The book also investigates what a post-Brexit immigration system should look like.

About the Speakers:

Rt Hon Dame Margaret Hodge MP will be provided a response to Jonathan Portes based on her experience working many of these issues in government and Parliament. Dame Margaret entered Parliament in 1994 during which time she has held roles including Minister of State for Work, Minister of State for Universities and Chair of the Public Accounts Committee.

Prior to joining King's College London, Jonathan Portes spent most of his career as a civil servant, serving as Chief Economist at the Department for Work and Pensions from 2002 to 2008 and Chief Economist at the Cabinet Office from 2008 to 2011. He led the Cabinet Office’s economic analysis and economic policy work during the financial crisis and on the G20 London Summit in April 2009.
