Why missing data matter

The abstract

It is estimated that 85% of research investment is wasted. Missing data, in particular, reduce the power, precision, and generalisability of trial findings. Moreover, they can introduce bias. It is therefore essential that we understand the risk missing data pose to palliative care trials and how we can reduce their impact.

This seminar will explore the extent and risk of bias posed by missing data in palliative care trials, the factors associated with incomplete data, and discuss recommendations for future trials.

About the speaker

Dr Jamilla Hussain, NIHR Doctoral Research Fellow, Hull York Medical School.

Jamilla is a palliative medicine trainee doctor with an interest in research methodology and how to improve the value of palliative care research and therefore clinical care. She is currently completing her PhD which focussed on missing data.
