Improving the accuracy and safety of diagnosis and our understanding of the mechanisms of food allergy

Speaker: Dr Alexandra Santos, Senior Clinical Lecturer in Paediatric Allergy.

Dr Alexandra F. Santos is Senior Clinical Lecturer at King’s College London and Honorary Consultant in Paediatric Allergy in the Evelina London. Alexandra qualified in Medicine from Coimbra University and completed her PhD in Allergy and Immunology at King's College London, supervised by Professor GideonLack. Alexandra has received prestigious awards from the Medical Research Council and further funding from the NIH for her work in the LEAP Study and from Asthma UK as Principal Investigator of Asthma UKCentre in Allergic Mechanisms of Asthma. Alexandra leads a research programme on food allergy, which combines clinical and laboratory research aiming to improve the accuracy and safety of food allergy diagnosis and our understanding of the mechanisms of food allergy and oral tolerance in IgE-sensitised children. Alexandra has been very active in the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology(EAACI) and has recently been elected as the Chair of the Board of the Food Allergy Interest Group.
