PhD Research

Study at one of the top Film Studies departments in the UK (5th Guardian University Guide 2017/18) with research strengths in European, American and East Asian cinema, cultural studies and film-philosophy.

In the most recent Research Excellence Framework 87% of our research output was ranked at 4* or 3* and 100% of our impact case studies were also rated at 4* or 3*.

Our partnership with the BFI in London gives you access to the Reuben library, the largest and best film library in the UK.

Alongside their research our students can take part in skills training, teach on our undergraduate film degrees and work on film festivals and educational events across London’s thriving film culture.

Our students research areas such as European popular genres and art cinema to stardom, documentary and experiential film.

Duration Expected to be PhD (initial registration for MPhil), three years FT, four-six years PT. September to September, January to January or April to April.

Study a PhD in Film Studies at King's College London or a joint PhD with the University of Hong Kong or National University of Singapore
