Visitors

We have an active international visitors’ programme and host visiting researchers and students from key regions of interest. Our connection with visitors ensures a continuous exchange of ideas. It also facilitates the development of novel and transdisciplinary conceptual and methodological approaches to research.

Information for visitors

We welcome visiting researchers to participate in our teaching and research activities, subject to agreements made with our Head of Department.

The types of appointments available are without emolument and titles used include: Visiting Professor, Visiting Senior Lecturer, Visiting Lecturer, Visiting Senior Research Fellow, Visiting Research Fellow and Visiting Postdoctoral Fellow.

Visiting Senior Lecturer/Visiting Senior Research Fellow appointments apply to scholars who have already published work of distinction. These appointments recognise the contribution of those in government service, professional practice, the private sector or all other appropriate fields to research and other Department activities.

Visiting Lecturer/Visiting Research Fellow/Visiting Postdoctoral Fellow appointments apply to scholars and researchers in the early stages of their career. They also recognise the contribution of those in government service, professional practice, the private sector or all other appropriate fields to research and other Department activities.

1. Contact a potential sponsor with a full CV and an outline of your intended programme of work while at the Department.

2. Once you have an agreement in principle from a member of staff to act as your sponsor, you should complete the Visiting Appointment nomination form and the equal opportunities form (your sponsor will retrieve this from our staff intranet pages). Please email them to your prospective sponsor, who will then need to provide a supporting statement.

3. Your application will then be considered by the Department Research Committee.

Please note: having an agreement in principle from a member of staff to sponsor you does not guarantee that you will be accepted by the Department Research Committee. Incomplete applications and additional documentation will not be considered.

Complete our visiting appointment nomination form

Applications will be reviewed by the Department Research Committee three times a year. The next deadlines for applications are 9 October 2019, 29 January 2020 and 6 May 2020.

Unfortunately, we are not able to decide on visitors’ applications in between Research Committee meetings.
Decisions will normally be communicated to applicants within four weeks from the collection deadline.

In recognition of the resources used, there will be a bench fee for all visitors. This will provide ‘light’ supervision, desk space (if available) and access to the IT and library facilities at King’s, as well as the opportunity to attend events organised by the Department.

2019-2020 weekly bench fee: £150
Termly bench fee: £1,500
