Small research facilities

Small Research Facilities

SRFs are facilities within the university that although based in one Faculty/Division are open to anyone to use. All facilities have a manager who is the contact for anyone wishing to use the services of that facility.

Wohl Cellular Imaging Centre

The Wohl Cellular Imaging Centre is located in the Maurice Wohl Clinical  Neuroscience Centre at Denmark Hill campus.

It has a selection of confocal microscopes, light sheet microscopes, a super-resolution microscope and a high content imaging platform.

For further Information please contact George Chennell.

Genomics Facilities

There are two separate purpose built Genomics Facilities based on separate campuses. They each have some specialized and some overlapping equipment and they complement each other in that they are involved in different areas of genetics research.

  • Genomics FWB
  • Guy's Genomics Facility

Mass Spectrometry Facility

There are two separate facilities comprising the Centre of Excellence for Mass Spectrometry:

  • Mass Spectrometry Facility, FWB Waterloo
  • Proteomics Facility, Denmark Hill

Centre for Biomolecular Spectroscopy

The Centre for Biomolecular Spectroscopy was built and funded by a Capital Award from the Wellcome Trust to promote the study of biological macromolecules both in basic and medical science. The Centre comprises a set of facilities on Guy's Campus, providing expertise and state-of-the-art biophysical equipment including NMR and optical spectroscopy.

Protein Production Facility

This facility is based in the Randall Division of Cell and Molecular Biophysics, New Hunt's House, Guy’s Campus.

For further information please contact Professor Brian Sutton.

X-Ray Crystallography (Randall)

This facility is based in the Structural Biology Section of the Randall Division of Cell and Molecular Biophysics, New Hunt's House, Guy’s Campus.

For further information please contact Professor Brian Sutton.

Intravital Microscope

This is housed within the Centre for Molecular and Cellular Biology of Inflammation, New Hunt's House, Guy's Campus.

For further information please contact Celine Trouillet.

IoPPN Genomics & Biomarker Core Facility

This facility is housed withing the MRC SGDP Centre at the IoPPN and offers and array of services from sample preparation to bioinformatics support.  It is a CSPro certified provider of Illumina's platforms and assays for genotyping and gene expression and provides state-of-the-art robotics and LIMS tracking of samples.

For further information, please see here or contact Charles Curtis.

Multicolour multiphoton microscope

This ZEISS 7MP multiphoton microscope is capable of imaging up to 8 colours simultaneously with high penetration depths, making it ideal for fast in vivo imaging.  The microscope is located in the Hodgkin Building, Guy’s campus.
