(MD MSc DIC PhD) is the Head of Neurodegeneration Imaging Group (NIG). He is the Lily Safra Professor of Neurology & Neuroimaging at King’s College London (KCL) and a Consultant Neurologist at King’s Health Partners. He is also a Visiting Clinical Senior Lecturer in Neurology and Principal Investigator in the Neurology Imaging Unit at Imperial College London.
Marios Politis graduated in Medicine from the University of Athens (Greece), and he obtained an MSc and the Diploma of Imperial College London in Integrative Neuroscience. He holds a PhD in Clinical Neuroscience from Imperial College London. He has previously worked as a clinical research fellow at University College London (UCL) and as a clinical lecturer at Imperial College London. He is a former research investigator at MRC Cyclotron Unit, in which he also received intense training for several years. He has industry experience by serving as a clinical imaging investigator and consultant for several PET Imaging trials.
His high quality research has led in high impact scientific publications, a number of awards, fellowships and distinctions, and to regular invitations for presentations in national and international scientific meetings. He has served as a scientific advisory board member for the: Expert Committee for the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), Oversight Panel of the State University of New York-Upstate New York State Stem Cell Program Consortium, Network of European CNS Transplantation and Restoration (NECTAR), Trial Development Group for the TRANSEURO (European research consortium aiming to develop an efficacious and safe treatment using foetal cell transplantation in Parkinson’s disease), ClearView Healthcare Partners Inc. (Boston, USA), Ipsos Inc. (Paris, France), Abbott Healthcare Products Ltd, BioMedical Insights Inc. (San Francisco, USA) and European Multiple System Atrophy Study Group.
At KCL, he is a member of the KCL NIHR BRC PET executive committee, he is developing PET imaging strategy for the Department of Basic and Clinical Neuroscience, and he is a member of Alzheimer’s disease UK network. He regularly contributes to the teaching and training of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Marios Politis is a regular research council reviewer for the French National Research Agency (ANR), MRC Neurosciences & Mental Health board, and MS Research Australia (MSRA). He has been invited to peer-review scientific articles from over 50 journals including The Lancet, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Annals of Neurology, Neurology, Plos One, Neurobiology of Disease, Movement Disorders, Neuroimaging, Human Brain Mapping, Journal of Neurology, and many others. He is an active member of American Academy of Neurology, Movement Disorder Society, New York Academy of Sciences, British Neuroscience Association, and a Fellow of Royal Society of Medicine.
