Srivastava Lab, New Paper

Srivastava Lab, New Paper
Description
The Srivastava Lab (BCN), in collaboration with the Powell (SGDP) and Vernon (BCN) labs have new work published this month in Biological Psychiatry1. This study investigated the biological function of the schizophrenia risk gene NT5C2, which has previously been associated with schizophrenia susceptibility in large genetic studies comparing differences between patients and unaffected individuals2. Previous work by the first author, Rodrigo Duarte (SGDP & BCN), has demonstrated that individuals who carry genetic risk variants for schizophrenia at the NT5C2 locus, show reduced expression of this gene in the brain and during foetal development3, but the biological function of the NT5C2 protein in the nervous system was unclear.
