Wohl Cellular Imaging Centre

Wohl Cellular Imaging Centre

Welcome to the Wohl Cellular Imaging Centre (WCIC)

Our aim is to provide cutting-edge light microscopy equipment and support for the Neuroscience and Biomedical communities on the Denmark Hill campus of King’s College London.

The WCIC hosts a range of state-of-the-art microscopy equipment; these include the following systems:

  • Opera Phenix High Content Screening System (Perkin Elmer)
    • Epifluorescence or Confocal imaging of Multiwell plates
  • Aurora Light Sheet Microscope (MSquared Lasers)
    • Single Photon imaging of samples up to 1mm thick
    • Multiphoton imaging of samples up to 1mm thick

The WCIC also houses a Nikon Centre of Excellence in Advanced Neuroscience Imaging which hosts the following systems:

  • A1R Inverted Confocal
    • Fast confocal scanning
    • Spectral Imaging
    • Live cell imaging
    • Stimulation
  • Inverted Spinning Disc Microscope (Andor disk head)
    • Fast confocal scanning
    • Sensitive live imaging
  • iSIM Super-resolution Microscope
    • Fast Super-resolution (120nm lateral and 350 axial resolution)
    • Super-resolution in to tissue deeper than 10µm
  • A1R Multiphoton/Confocal Microscope
    • Deep tissue penetration up to 1mm
    • Fast Scanning head
    • Spectral Imaging
    • Dual Confocal and Multiphoton modes
    • Stimulation in visible or multiphoton

In addition to microscopy equipment, we provide access to analysis work stations with a range of image software and we provide expertise in image analysis. We can provide expert advice and guidance in helping to decide which systems to use and experimental design. We will also host a series of training events, workshops and “Drop-in Clinics” covering topics including general microscopy techniques/education, as well as those focused on the use and application of specific microscopes, advanced imaging modalities, and image analysis.
