Dr Georgia Lockwood Estrin

Georgia-Lockwood-Estrin-croppedDr Georgia Lockwood Estrin is a Senior Research Associate in the Section for Women’s Mental Health. She co-leads the Msc module on Research Methodologies in Women’s Mental Health.Prior to starting at IoPPN in September 2016, she worked in the Centre for Global Mental Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). There she conducted a portfolio level evaluation of 50 mental health projects implemented in low and middle income countries.

Georgia also has experience of knowledge synthesis and exchange in the field of mental health, when working for the Mental Health Innovation Network (MHIN) at LSHTM. MHIN is an online platform for mental health stakeholders, including service providers, service users and policy makers (

Before starting at LSHTM, she completed her PhD at Imperial College London, and an MSc at University College London (UCL) in Clinical Neuroscience. Her PhD focused on investigating the neurodevelopment of infants at risk of developmental disorders.

Georgia is particularly interested in research at the interface between neuroscience and global mental health, and will soon start a Sir Henry Wellcome Post-doc Fellowship working on establishing a method for detecting Autism Spectrum Disorders in the UK and in India. For this she is working with Prof Vikram Patel and his team at the Public Health Foundation of India, and Prof Mark Johnson at Birkbeck College.
