Dr Marilia Calcia

marilia-calciaDr Calcia joined the Section of Women's Mental Health in 2016. She is a medical doctor who has trained in psychiatry and psychotherapy in Brazil and Italy, and is now a senior psychiatry trainee (specialist registrar) at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. 

Dr Calcia has conducted research in the neurobiology of schizophrenia and quality improvement work in the area of organisational learning from serious incidents in mental healthcare.

She is now studying the role of mental health services in preventing domestic violence homicides by conducting a qualitative analysis of Domestic Violence Review (DHR) overview Reports, which are published by local authorities in England and Wales following a domestic violence-related death.

She will also conduct qualitative interviews of mental health service users who have been perpetrators of domestic violence, to investigate the support and treatment needs of this group of patients.
