The SGDP Summer School 2019 offers two new exciting courses:

Course 1: Twin Model Fitting (Open MX) Course

Date: 17th June - 20th June 2019

Course Directors: Dr Helena Zavos, Dr Tom McAdams & Dr Frühling Rijsdijk

This 4-day course is designed for post-graduate students, post-doctoral researchers, and clinical researchers who wish to learn more about or move into the field. The course will teach the basic principles of the twin model as well as the basic skills to analyze twin data by teaching delegates how to write simple scripts and how to interpret the output. We will use OpenMx, a free open source software, which works as an integral part of the R statistical software system. The content of the course is aimed primarily at researchers who are planning to conduct twin data analyses and will include a fair amount of program specific features. Knowledge of R is not necessary.

The Lectures and practicals will cover: (i) introduction to R and OpenMx; (ii) univariate and multivariate models applied to continuous raw data; (iii) univariate liability threshold models (ordinal data); (iv) sex-limitation models; (v) GxE interaction models; (vi) Children-of-Twin models. In addition, we cover the basic concepts of structural equation modelling like: matrix algebra, path tracing, model identification, maximum likelihood estimation and power.

Course fees: £700

KCL staff and students receive a reduced rate of £350

To apply for this course, please see the King's short courses portal here.

Course 2: Polygenic Risk Score Analyses

Date: 21st of June 2019

Course Directors: Dr Paul O'Reilly and Dr  Sam Choi

This one day workshop will describe some of the fundamental theory underpinning polygenic risk score (PRS) analyses, provide hands-on practical sessions illustrating both basic and more complex PRS analyses, and illustrate the application of PRS using examples from published and ongoing research.

Course fees:

The full fee for the course is £250

Discounted fees are available for the following groups:
Public Sector workers £150
Students at other institutions £150
King's students £75
King's staff / King's health partners and SLAM employee's £75

To apply for this course, please see the King's short courses portal here.
