Welcome from Vice Dean Professor Til Wykes
The Psychology & Systems Sciences Division comprises the departments of Psychology (including Health Psychology); MRC Centre for Social Genetic and Developmental Psychiatry (SGDP); Health Service and Population Research; and Biostatistics.
Our Division includes more than 100 Principal Investigators, with research programmes spanning a very wide range of areas from childhood to old age and from basic research through treatment development and implementation and on to healthcare and society.
This Division is home to many of the basic and evaluative sciences (e.g. psychology, economics, statistics, informatics) that underpin IoPPN research; and expertise (psychology, service research and improvement science) that improves the impact of scientific breakthroughs across King’s Health Partners (KHP). Our teaching and research links across the whole IoPPN.
We house several world leading assets:
- the Service User Research Enterprise (SURE) – the world’s largest university group to undertake research that tests the effectiveness of services and treatments from the perspective of people with mental health problems and their carers;
- our Psychology department offers one of the world’s most prestigious and longest running clinical psychology courses; and
- the MRC SGDP Centre, which undertakes research on the impact and interplay between genetic, environmental and developmental factors, cited in the RAE 2008 to have world leading environment and outputs.
The Division also leads the King’s Clinical Trials Unit – a centre of excellence which helps research teams throughout the country carry out clinical trials safely and to a high scientific standard. We are also proud to be have launched King’s first BSc Psychology in September 2015.
As with the other IoPPN Divisions, Psychology & Systems Sciences embraces research, education and clinical translation aiming to further understand and improve mental health and brain disease, and train the next generation of researchers and practitioners.
