KHP Centre for Neurodegeneration Research

Neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s Huntington’s and motor neuron disease are rightly feared because they are disabling from the outset and relentlessly progressive. Our brain function defines who we are and how others see us, which is why these conditions are so challenging to patients, their family and friends.

Neurodegeneration Unit

Research in the Neurodegeneration Unit encompasses a wide range of neurodegenerative disorders, including dementias (such as Alzheimer’s disease and frontotemporal dementias), motor neuron diseases (such as amyotrophic sclerosis (ALS) ataxias), and Parkinson’s disease and related disorders (such as progressive supranuclear palsy).

MRC Centre for Neurodevelopmental Disorders

The Medical Research Council Centre for Neurodevelopmental Disorders at King’s College London opened in November 2016, and is directed by Professor Oscar Marín. The Centre brings together world leading researchers across King’s College London with the mission to identify the biological mechanisms underlying developmental brain disorders, with the ultimate goal of translating this knowledge into clinical advances that change the lives of all those affected.

Neurology Unit

Members of the Neurology Unit study the disorders of the brain that are common in adults and children – such as epilepsy, stroke, headache, sleep disorders, learning difficulties, cognitive function, myopathies and Parkinson’s disease.

Nicotine Research Group

The Nicotine Research Group (NRG) leads and collaborates on various projects ranging from harm reduction associated with tobacco use to conducting longitudinal studies that provide an evidence-base to inform the development and implementation of tobacco control policies.
Our research is translational, collaborative, impactful and truly international, and you can find out more about the various areas of our work via the links below.
