About the role
The School of Security Studies is recruiting a full-time Programme Officer who will provide administrative support to taught programmes within the Department of War Studies. We are seeking candidates at all levels with experience in delivering high quality customer service in a professional environment to support our strategic aims. This is an ideal opportunity to commence or further your career in Higher Education administration.
The Programme Officer will support student lifecycle processes from pre-enrolment activities, through induction and registration to graduation and beyond, utilising systems and databases - e.g., student records systems and virtual learning environments – in accordance with best practice, ensuring consistency of data and identifying and resolving issues.
The Programme Officer is the first point of contact for resolving students’ and academics’ enquiries, in person and via email, responding within agreed timeframes and escalating complex enquiries as appropriate. Working flexibly as part of a team, they will support others in times of high-volume activity and actively participate in the development and improvement of processes to support students and academic staff.
With support to develop a working knowledge of regulations and processes, the Programme Officer is a valued and trusted member of the team with a keen eye for accuracy and detail.
The postholder will report to the Senior Programme Officer and is based at the Strand Campus. Professional services staff are currently working on a hybrid basis, meaning that the role holder will spend part of their working week on campus and the remainder working remotely.
This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract for 12 months.
About you
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to draft documents and correspondence
- Excellent organisation, administrative and time management skills with the ability to balance competing priorities under pressure to meet deadlines
- Strong numeracy skills and ability to analyse numerical data
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages and the ability to learn new systems
- Methodical, detail oriented and flexible in approach to work, maintaining a high level of accuracy when completing tasks
- Ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders in a professional and assured manner including experience in a customer-facing environment, managing complaints or complex situations with sensitivity and confidentiality
- Proactive with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team, committed to equality, diversity and professional development
Desirable criteria
- Experience in the use of databases, student records systems (such as SITS)
- Experience of using virtual learning environments or website content management systems
