King’s IT End User Services is seeking a Desktop Engineer to join one of our busy Desktop teams based at our Denmark Hill Campus. EUS Desktop Services support a wide range of users and their IT requirements, from basic troubleshooting and support, to provisioning new kit. We ensure the King’s community can rely on good quality, knowledgeable and proactive help and assistance. About the role:
We are looking for a self-motivated individual with excellent customer service and technical skills who will deliver a first-class user experience for staff and students.
Working within a ticket-based service management framework and appropriate SLAs, the role holder will support all the technology needs of King’s College London end users.
They will have the responsibility for maintaining the hardware in the student computer rooms, telephony installs, and building new hardware, as well as participating in the TechBar rota.
The role is intended to help develop a broad range of IT skills and provide a high level of customer support across the EUS as part of the client-facing teams of IT.
This post is full time (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract. This is primarily an onsite role.
About you:
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
- At least 6 months supporting Microsoft Windows and/or Apple macOS
- Experience of hardware servicing
- Ability to diagnose and solve problems
- Able to install, configure, upgrade and test desktop computers (both Windows and Mac)
- Excellent communication, liaison, and coordination skills
- Proactive, flexible, and responsive approach to work
- Ability to work collaboratively with other teams and external clients
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritize own workload and meet challenging deadlines
Desirable criteria
- ITIL Foundation certification
- Membership of an appropriate professional body e.g. BCS
- Willingness to identify and develop own training needs
