About Us
The TOUR (Transforming cancer OUtcomes through Research) team aims to use science to improve healthcare outcomes by translating oncology research into clinical practice. TOUR is led by Professor Mieke Van Hemelrijck, and comprises a team of quantitative and qualitative researchers, clinicians, students, research nurses, trial coordinators, and database managers who are active across the field of translational oncology research.
Moreover, Prof Van Hemelrijck leads Guy’s Cancer Real World Evidence (RWE) Programme together with Dr Anne Rigg from Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. The programme aims to amplify Guy’s Cancer RWE data science capability and facilitate addressing answering challenging cancer research questions. The overall aim of Guy’s Cancer RWE Programme is to drive world class patient centred research.
This specific post will focus on a collaboration with the Royal Marsden Hospital. Hence, the successful candidate will be a member of the TOUR team, with an honorary RMH contract as to facilitate data curation and extraction for the project.
About The Role
This is a unique opportunity to join the team in further developing the services for patients with cancer at Guy’s Cancer – with a specific focus on prostate cancer. There will be close links with clinical staff as well as the analytics team of Guy’s Cancer Real World Evidence programme.
About You
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
- BSc in Sports Medicine (or awaiting degree to be awarded)
- Knowledge of basic epidemiology/statistics
- Highly evolved communication, interpersonal and presentation skills; including written and verbal communication, formal presentations, including to professional/external bodies.
- IT skills with windows packages, Microsoft Office, as well as statistical software such as STATA or R.
- Knowledge of the Data Protection Act and other relevant security and confidentiality procedures are complied with.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills
- Ability to interpret, apply and communicate complex information
- Evidence of research experience in a cancer epidemiology setting – at least one peer-reviewed publication using a cohort study.

- Ability to prioritise workload and plan ahead • Ability to work independently
- Demonstration of attention to detail and high standards of accuracy
- Flexible and able to respond to change
- Self-motivated and able to work independently and also as part of a team
