About us:
This is an exciting opportunity for an organised and motivated individual to support Estates & Facilities (E&F) in delivering efficient, compliant, and sustainable waste and resource practices. As part of King’s commitment to sustainability and climate action, you will contribute to initiatives that reduce environmental impact and support our vision of making the world a better place.
This 6-month secondment offers a valuable opportunity to develop your skills and gain experience within a collaborative and impact-driven team.
About the role:
The Waste & Resource Coordinator plays an important role in supporting the effective management of waste and resources across King’s College London, including research and other specialist waste streams. Based within the Sustainability Team in Estates & Facilities, the role contributes to ensuring that King’s meets its legal obligations and ISO 14001 requirements while supporting ongoing improvements in waste and resource practices.
Reporting to the Sustainability Operations Manager, you will act as a key point of contact for waste-related queries, providing operational advice and supporting stakeholders across multiple campuses. You will help maintain oversight of waste-related activities, contribute to data management processes, and support accurate reporting to inform decision-making and performance monitoring.
The role offers strong exposure to engagement and communications activity. You will attend user groups and waste review meetings, support the development and delivery of training tailored to different audiences, and contribute to initiatives and campaigns that promote best practice and behavioural change. You will also have opportunities to represent King’s in sector networks to learn from industry developments and best practice, develop your professional knowledge, and strengthen our profile.
Compliance is a key aspect of the role. You will monitor legislative updates, maintain complete and accurate documentation, and carry out internal waste audits to help verify compliance and identify opportunities for improvement.
In addition, you will contribute to contract management activities, support the implementation of the Waste & Resource Strategy and Action Plan, and work with embedded space partners to help align processes and co-design initiatives.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about sustainability and resource efficiency to broaden their experience, develop new skills, and contribute to meaningful environmental outcomes. Your work will help embed best practice across King’s and support the university’s strategic commitments to sustainability.
