About us

The Department of Philosophy is one of the largest and most distinguished in the UK. We have particular research strengths in the history of philosophy, philosophy of mind and psychology, philosophy of language and linguistics, metaphysics, epistemology, and philosophy of science and ethics and political philosophy.

About the role:

This is a non-renewable career development post for early career scholars: applicants must have submitted their Philosophy PhD thesis at KCL, within the twelve months directly preceding commencement of the post.

Applications are welcome from candidates with research interests in any area of philosophy.

This is a full time (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 31 August 2026.

About you:

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. PhD in Philosophy at time of appointment
  2. Ability to coordinate and lead seminars at introductory level on Philosophy and Medicine for students in the MBBS (Medical School) programme
  3. Outstanding teaching ability and suitable teaching experience in Philosophy
  4. Ability to supervise student research in Philosophy at BA and MA levels
  5. Ability to engage in pastoral care and concern to create a diverse and inclusive environment in the classroom and in the University

Desirable criteria

  1. Excellent administrative and organisational skills
  2. Excellent record of, or ability and plans for, academic publications and other outputs appropriate to career stage
