Based at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, our Institute is derived from St John's Hospital for Diseases of the Skin that was founded in London in 1868.
We play a leading role in the training of dermatologists both in the UK and around the world. Our MSc in Clinical Dermatology is world-renowned, and we have an active education programme providing specialist dermatology training.
Our research facilities are designed to enable translational human skin research and include cell biology (including cell transfection), immuno-labelling and photomicroscopy, molecular genetic facilities and in vivo sampling techniques (phototesting, skin biopsy and DNA sampling), with appropriate storage techniques.

This is a rare opportunity to lead a paradigm-shifting clinical trial while undertaking a PhD—gaining deep expertise from trial conception to impact, within a programme designed to accelerate therapies for patients with EB.

This Clinical Research Fellow post offers a fully funded PhD to lead delivery of a Phase 2/3 multi-arm, multi-stage (MAMS) platform trial evaluating repurposed biologics and biosimilars in adults with epidermolysis bullosa (EB). The programme integrates a parallel non-CTIMP study (MOSAIC) and CTIMP trial (ART-EB Phase 2/3)—the largest and most ambitious drug repurposing effort in EB to date.
Working under the supervision of Dr Su Lwin (Chief Investigator), you will operate at the interface of clinical trials, immunology, multi-omics and health economics, with direct mentorship from internationally recognised leaders.
This is a full-time post (40 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 30th September 2029.
About You
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
- Full GMC registration with valid license to practice in the UK
- MRCP or equivalent
- Broad based general professional training in general medicine and proven track record of general medicine experience
- Ability to work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team, and capable of establishing excellent interpersonal relationships with patients and staff of all grades and backgrounds
- Understanding of the principles and applications of clinical research and contribution to effective clinical/clinical risk management based on the principles of Good Medical Practice set out by the General Medical Council
- Evidence of resilience, proactivity, leadership, organisational, time-keeping, trouble-shooting, multi-tasking and critical thinking skills
- Ability to adapt to new environments, work under pressure and with multiple teams and meet deadlines
- Publication in peer-reviewed journals
Desirable criteria
- Exposure to clinical dermatology and/or patients with epidermolysis bullosa AND/OR dermatology procedural skills including skin biopsy
- Experience of working on interventional studies or complex/ large scale observational studies AND/OR contribution to research ethics/regulatory applications AND/OR patient recruitment
- Experience in laboratory research or laboratory skills
- Evidence of oral or poster presentations AND/OR teaching
