About the role

The Senior Business Operations Officer provides high‑quality, proactive business and executive support to the King’s Institute for Artificial Intelligence. The role underpins the effective operation of the Institute across executive support, events delivery, and core business operations including finance, HR, procurement, governance, space, and health and safety.

Working independently and as part of a friendly and collegiate professional services team, the post holder ensures consistent, compliant and efficient service delivery in line with university and Faculty policies and priorities. The role requires sound judgement, strong organisational skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities while delivering responsive stakeholder support.

The post holder actively contributes to the continuous improvement of processes, sharing best practice and supporting innovation to enhance service delivery. They work closely with academic and professional services colleagues across the university and with external stakeholders to support the Institute’s strategic objectives and profile.

The role includes responsibility for day-to-day financial processes, coordination of executive and governance activity, and end-to-end operational support for a diverse portfolio of events and engagement activities. Flexibility is required, as the post involves occasional evening and very infrequent weekend work to support out-of-hours events.

This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

1.      Experience of working in higher education, research or a regulated environment.

2.      Experience of supporting business operations and providing executive support including servicing committees and diary management - acquired through substantial relevant work experience.

3.      Substantial experience of planning and supporting in‑person, online or hybrid events in a relevant context.

4.      Effective at working independently, and as part of a team, able to take own initiative and decisions with a proactive approach to problem solving.

5.      Excellent numeracy skills and experience of financial administration within policies and procedures.

6.      Proficient IT skills – in particular Microsoft Office 365 applications (including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, MS Forms & Power BI reporting) and experience of utilising digital technology in day-to-day work.

7.      Strong written and verbal communication skills.

8.      High levels of organisational ability and ability to maintain excellent accuracy and attention for detail when working to deadlines or across competing priorities

Desirable criteria

1.      Experience of process improvement or service enhancement that has made an impact

2.      Experience of using GenAI in a professional context.
