About us

King’s Estates & Facilities (E&F) manages King’s diverse estate of over 70 buildings across five central London campuses. The directorate ensures the smooth operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of spaces that support teaching, research, and student life.

With over 1,000 staff, E&F is the university’s largest professional services team. It plays a key role in delivering Strategic Vision 2029 while preserving and future-proofing the estate for the future.

The Carbon Reduction Manager will be positioned within the Sustainability Team, which is responsible for leading the delivery of the University’s Sustainability Strategy and progressing its net zero objectives.

About the role

The Carbon Reduction Manager plays a central role in supporting the University’s Net Zero targets and broader sustainability objectives. Working closely with the Energy & Carbon Manager, the role combines analytical, financial, behavioural, and project delivery expertise to reduce energy consumption, water use, and associated carbon emissions across the estate. A key focus is identifying and addressing energy waste, analysing consumption trends, monitoring the effectiveness of implemented measures, and identifying new opportunities to improve efficiency.

A core responsibility is supporting the delivery of the University’s Carbon Management Plan. This involves maintaining and expanding a pipeline of carbon reduction and energy efficiency projects, developing robust business cases with the support of different teams, and assisting with project implementation. The postholder also contributes to wider sustainability initiatives, including Scope 3 emissions reduction and resource efficiency programmes, ensuring a holistic approach to environmental performance.

The role includes providing specialist advice to a wide range of stakeholders such as managers, staff, academics, and students; to improve building performance and encourage proactive energy management behaviours. In addition, the post holder supports the operation and continuous improvement of the Energy Management System to maintain ISO 50001 certification. This includes producing evidence based reports, participating in energy audits, and verifying energy and carbon savings.

Key responsibilities also include identifying funding opportunities, supporting the rollout of sub metering to enhance energy monitoring, analysing energy data to detect inefficiencies, tracking progress against carbon reduction targets, and collaborating with internal teams to co-design initiatives and ensure alignment with sustainability goals.

This is a full time and you will be offered an indefinite  contract.
