The CC accepts referrals from the local population, from its affiliated cancer units in South East London, and is also a tertiary referral centre treating patients from further afield. It is committed to delivering high quality clinical care in a research-oriented environment, and is well recognised for specialist training in Medical Oncology. King’s Health Partners is the alliance between the partner hospitals and King’s College London (KCL), together forming one of the largest centres for biomedical research and education in Europe. Clinical and translational research forms a key component of the CC’s cancer strategy. The achievements and potential of the institutions in the fields of cancer research have been recognised with designation as an Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre, and as a part of the Cancer Research UK City of London Major Centre. Trainees in Oncology enjoy the active support of a large department composed of medical and clinical oncology consultants. The Cancer Early Phase Trials Unit (CEPTU) at Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust / King’s College London is a multidisciplinary group of clinicians, nurses, data managers, scientists, and support staff involved in the development of new anticancer drugs. Based in the NIHR Clinical Research Facility on the Guy’s campus, the activities of the Unit include aspects of anticancer drug development from target and biomarker validation to the conduct of Phase I trials.
