About The Role

King’s College London Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine seeks to appoint an outstanding clinical academic to the post of Professor of Paediatric Inherited Cardiovascular Medicine within the School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Medicine & Sciences.

The appointee will be clinically active and have an excellent track record of innovative paediatric cardiovascular research, substantial competitive grant funding (e.g. programme grants), and proven scientific leadership (e.g. leadership of multi-disciplinary teams, networks). They will pursue an internationally recognised research programme that complements existing cardiovascular activities at King’s, unified through the King’s British Heart Foundation (BHF) Centre of Research Excellence and MRC/BHF Centre of Research Excellence in Advanced Cardiac Therapies (REACT).

The successful applicant will play a key leadership role in strengthening the clinical and translational research reach of the Faculty, leveraging the unparalleled clinical services and expertise of what is now the largest cardiovascular service in the UK. They will contribute to the strategic growth of world-class research teams that work synergistically across the academic-clinical-industry interface, identifying and growing promising early career researchers, and supporting the involvement of clinical colleagues in research. We also wish to maximise the relevance of our work to our highly diverse catchment population in inner city London as well as more widely.

This is a full-time post, with up to 5 PAs for clinical and supporting activities based at Evelina London Children’s Hospital. You will be offered an indefinite contract.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. Full GMC registration with valid license to practice and extensive experience of working in a clinical environment within a busy teaching hospital with expertise in paediatric inherited cardiovascular medicine
  2. Internationally recognised research profile with a sustained record of outputs of international excellence and, where appropriate, world‑leading quality.
  3. Outstanding track record of securing and leading substantial external research funding as Principal Investigator.
  4. Extensive experience of delivering and leading high‑quality undergraduate and postgraduate education.
  5. Proven record of successful postgraduate research supervision as lead supervisor, with sustained evidence of completions and researcher development.
  6. Excellent strategic leadership, communication and influencing skills, with the ability to shape agendas across disciplines and institutions.

Desirable criteria

  1. PhD qualified in relevant subject area
  2. Significant academic leadership experience at Departmental, Faculty, College or equivalent level.
