About Us

​​GKT Medical Education Fellows (MEFs) are licensed doctors with lived experience of undergraduate medical education and an early track record of high-quality postgraduate medical education. They work with the central MBBS education team to design, create, and deliver high-quality educational initiatives that improve student learning and experience across the GKT MBBS programme.

About The Role

We are appointing three Education Fellows to work together on a comprehensive review and redesign of our undergraduate online learning platform. The fellows will work with the central MBBS education team, and with module and block leads, to improve the educational content that students use in Moodle.

This is not a traditional teaching-fellow post focused mainly on delivering teaching sessions. The emphasis is on how we organise, design and build education across the programme. We want the fellows to bring clinical experience, teaching experience and a practical understanding of how students learn.

The roles are aimed at clinically qualified doctors, ideally at F3-equivalent or junior core or specialty trainee level. Applicants do not need to be in active clinical practice. These are early-career education posts rather than established academic appointments.

This is a part time post (16 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract for 12 months.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience: 

Essential criteria

1. GMC registration, or eligibility for registration appropriate to the appointment. Active clinical practice is not required.
2. Primary medical qualification. Experience of teaching, supporting learners or developing education for medical students or other health-professions learners.
3. A practical understanding of pedagogy and how online content can guide and scaffold learning.
4. Familiarity with large language models and prompting, including the need to check AI-generated content and code.
5. Enough coding confidence to inspect, change and troubleshoot web content, and willingness to work directly in Moodle source view. Professional developer experience is not required.
6. Ability to create clear presentations and digital content, with willingness to record and edit video and audio.
7. Clear written and verbal communication and the ability to work constructively with clinical, academic and professional-services colleagues.
8. An organised approach to review, documentation, testing and delivery over a 12-month project.
9. Commitment to accessibility, inclusive education, information governance and appropriate use of AI.

Desirable criteria 

1. Hands-on experience with Moodle or another virtual learning environment.
2. Experience with HTML/CSS, JavaScript, templates, version control or other web-development tools.
3. Experience with OBS Studio or equivalent recording and video-editing tools.
4. Postgraduate study or formal training in clinical or medical education.
5. Experience of evaluation, quality improvement, pedagogical research, abstracts or conference presentation.
