This senior role shapes and drives philanthropy for some of King’s highest institutional priorities, providing strategic direction across strategic major gifts, mass, legacy, and Trusts & Foundations fundraising. As King’s prepares for its next major campaign and its 2029 bicentenary, the Associate Director, Cross-University Philanthropy will ensure cross university priorities are clearly defined, fundable, and supported by compelling donor propositions. Working as a key member of the Philanthropy Leadership team and reporting to the Director of Philanthropy & Campaign, the post holder will lead major gift activity for institution-wide initiatives—including student support, educational equity programmes, and major capital projects such as the Bush House South West Wing. They will build a coherent programme and strategy that complements faculty-based fundraising, building and managing a team of Senior Philanthropy Managers and ensuring a consistent, data driven approach across P&A. The role provides strategic oversight of Trusts & Foundations, Leadership Giving, and Legacy & In Memory Giving, ensuring these income streams are integrated, high-performing, and aligned with campaign priorities. The post holder will also manage a personal portfolio of major and principal gift prospects, securing transformational support at six, seven, and eight figure levels. Acting as a central point of coordination for senior leaders across King’s, they will ensure shared priorities are well resourced and effectively articulated. They will work closely with fellow Associate Directors across principal giving, international philanthropy, and facu lty programmes to deliver a connected and high impact philanthropic strategy.
Trusts & Foundations fundraising at King’s aims to develop meaningful and beneficial relationships with trusts, foundations, and corporations. It seeks to secure support from organisations specifically established to distribute funds, in alignment with King’s strategic priorities.
Leadership Giving at King’s focuses on building relationships with alumni and supporters with the capacity to give typically between £1,000 and £25,000. Through a range of structured giving products and programmes, the team secures philanthropic support for student scholarships and bursaries, while advancing key faculty priorities and campaign objectives.
The Legacy and In Memory team at King’s encourages and supports gifts made through wills and in memory of loved ones, helping donors create lasting impact through education and research. The team provides sensitive, personalised stewardship to honour supporters’ wishes, work with families and executors, and ensure each gift is used in line with the donor’s values and the university’s charitable mission.
The Associate Director will provide strategic leadership for cross-university philanthropy, shaping major gift activity for King’s highest institutional priorities and ensuring programmes such as Trusts & Foundations, Leadership Giving, and Legacies are aligned, integrated, and delivering for Campaign. Working closely with senior university leaders and colleagues across P&A, the post holder will drive the development of compelling fundraising propositions, strengthen pipelines, and ensure a coordinated, data-driven approach to income generation. They will also play a key role in shaping team culture and representing cross-university philanthropy across King’s and externally. Core responsibilities include: • Leading major gift fundraising for cross-university initiatives and capital priorities, including student support and the Bush House South West Wing. • Overseeing Trusts & Foundations, Leadership Giving, and Legacy & In Memory Giving to build a sustainable long term strategy and fundraising pipeline. • Providing leadership and line management to Senior Philanthropy Managers, fostering a high performing, collaborative culture. • Managing a personal portfolio of major and principal gift prospects, cultivating supporters capable of transformational philanthropy. • Strategically partnering with colleagues across Communications, Operations, and Alumni Engagement to develop strong donor propositions, maintain effective pipelines, and ensure alignment across the philanthropic ecosystem. • Proven track record of personally securing six and seven figure philanthropic gifts. • Significant experience managing and developing high performing major gift fundraisers or teams. • Significant experience managing and developing mass and/or legacy fundraising programmes. • Experience developing and delivering fundraising strategies within complex organisations. • Ability to engage credibly with donor prospects and senior stakeholders, including academic and professional services leaders. • Strong team leadership and people management skills. • Excellent communication, proposal development, and donor engagement skills. • Highly organised and data literate, with experience using fundraising CRMs such as Raiser’s Edge or Salesforce.
• Experience working in a university or health related fundraising environment. • Familiarity with the UK higher education and research funding landscape. • Experience contributing to or leading a multi year fundraising campaign.
