Salary
A competitive salary commensurate with the academic profile and experience of the successful applicant will be offered. Start-up packages would be subject to separate negotiation and would-be time-limited for the period of the Executive Dean appointment.

A permanent academic Professorial contract. The postholder will take on additional leadership responsibilities as Executive Dean, Social Science & Public Policy for a fixed term of five years, with the potential for renewal at the agreement of both parties following review.

This pivotal role will shape the future direction of a leading Social Sciences & Public Policy faculty based in the heart of London. Responsible for fostering collaboration, advancing inclusive excellence, and driving outstanding research and education. The Executive Dean will nurture a culture of innovation, support, and shared purpose, guiding the Faculty through opportunities and challenges within the dynamic higher education landscape. The next Executive Dean will be instrumental in advancing the Faculty’s research excellence, fostering an inclusive and collaborative culture, and prioritising the well-being of staff and students. They will strengthen financial sustainability, advance interdisciplinary working with other faculties, and ensure the Faculty strategy is in alignment with the wider university principles and strategic ambitions outlined in Strategy 2030. Main duties and responsibilities
Leadership, Strategy, Planning & Partnerships
• Collaborate with the Vice-Chancellor & President, Senior Vice President (Academic), and the University Executive to deliver King’s strategic vision and academic mission, with collective responsibility for institutional performance and success. • Provide strategic leadership for the Faculty, ensuring alignment with university-wide goals while delivering on the Faculty’s core priorities of research excellence, financial sustainability, and a world-class education experience. • Build and sustain strong internal and external partnerships, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations across King’s and nurturing relationships with government, industry, philanthropic donors, and international institutions. • Act as an advocate and ambassador for the Faculty, enhancing the Faculty’s reputation and promoting the discipline within and beyond the university. • Lead initiatives that integrate philanthropic giving, international partnerships, and innovative approaches to blended education delivery into the Faculty’s strategic goals.
Education and Research
• Ensure the Faculty maintains its reputation for research excellence by fostering a culture of impactful scholarship, securing funding, and enabling high-quality outputs and interdisciplinary opportunities. • Work collaboratively with the VP (Education & Student Success) and support the Faculty Vice Dean (Education & Student Success) to deliver an exceptional and inclusive student experience that equips students for academic, personal, and professional success. • Work collaboratively with the VP (Research & Special Initiatives) and support the Faculty Vice Dean (Research) to advance sustainable research growth, promote impactful innovation, and enhance the Faculty’s research culture. • Encourage and support initiatives that drive interdisciplinary collaboration and partnerships both within King’s and with external stakeholders.

Selection process
Applications will be shortlisted by the selection committee which includes representation from the Faculty and University with external experts from the discipline. The final interview panel will be chaired by the Vice Chancellor & President and will include the Senior Vice President (Academic) and representatives from across the Faculty, University and wider sector. Longlisted candidates will be invited to a series of engagements with senior faculty, which will determine the shortlist. There will then be a single interview stage.
