Latin is a concise, flexible and beautiful language which was used for centuries both in everyday life and by scholars. It has provided vocabulary and concepts widely employed in law, politics, theology, medicine and in many texts of the musical tradition.

The characters and stories from Latin poetry and Roman history inspired art and literature in Europe and beyond, from the paintings of the Renaissance to the works of Shakespeare. By learning Latin you will learn about some aspects of life in the ancient world with its commonalities and differences from ours.

Learning Latin will help you discover connections with other cultures and the roots of many European languages. You will be able to appreciate many Latin phrases and mottos used in English, develop a keen attention to detail and an awareness of language mechanisms. And, by learning Latin you will be one of the many learners worldwide!
